SECRET ‘POWER SPOT’ OF ALMORA!

“Power spots are places on Earth that are said to have spiritual significance or are considered to be energy vortexes”

Is this true? Are there places on earth that affects our consciousness and state-of-mind by just ‘being-at-that-place’?

How do 'Space and Place' impact 'Consciousness and Experience'

- this is the underlying quest !

I had heard about power spots before but never been to one. Reason being that the list that pops up during online search for power spots globally does’nt show any in India.

That changed during my recent road trip to Kumaon with some college friends!

We visited all key temples of Kumaon: Jageshwar cluster of temples, Kesar devi temple, Golu devta temple and the exceptional sun temple at karatmal besides Bageshwar and Baijnath temples.

While all these were mesmerizing, the experience at the Kesar devi temple stood apart.

THE PHENOMENON OF ‘POWER-SPOT’

Following is the text we read about the speciality of Kasar Devi temple. It was also written on a board outside the temple:

‘Van Allen Belt’ is a zone of highly energetically charged particles trapped in the Earth’s magnetic field. American physicist James Van Allen discovered these radiation belts in 1958. Imagine gigantic doughnut-shaped rings, invisible to the eye, surrounding the Earth which is made out of countless magnets. It is believed that most of these particles come from solar wind and cosmic rays. There are basically two layers. The energetic electrons form the outer belt and a combination of protons and electrons form the inner belt of this phenomenon. It protects against charged particle radiation but does not protect against electromagnetic radiation.

 It is well known that Kasar Devi temple is located on the Van Allen Belt. Due to the presence of these geomagnetic rings, one can feel a sense of peace and calm washing all over them.

Other two such spots are located in Machu-Picchu in Peru and Stonehenge in England.

So, yes…..Kasar Devi Temple is a power spot, infact one of the three unique ones globally!

NOT THE FIRST ONES….

Even more intriguing is the fact that since ages, many mystics, poets, writers and singers have been visiting this spot for meditation even before discovery of Van Allen belt. The list includes Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore, DH Lawrence, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Danish mystic Alfred Sorensen, Harvard psychologist Timothy Leary, Tibetan Buddhism guru Lama Anagarika Govinda and Western Buddhist teacher Robert Thurman. In fact, back in 1890, Swami Vivekananda is said to have performed the most severe forms of meditation in a solitary cave of this mountain. 

OUR EXPERIENCE

Following their footsteps, I too sat there for meditation and experienced a deep meditative state almost instantaneously. Later while leaving all three of us (friends) shared that we all felt almost a ‘magnetic pull’ of that place and it was hard to leave. This was a distinct experience of that place as compared to all other temples spots we had visited.

Post this experience following questions popped up:

1.       How does the donut shaped ring of van allen belt in outer space connect/touch with ONLY THREE spots on surface of earth?

2.       What has presence of charged particles have to do with a ‘calm state of consciousness’?

3.       How did many mystics found this spot for deep meditation, including Swami vivekanand – way before van allen belt was discovered- read more about them in link attached?

POSSIBLE UNDERLYING SCIENCE

Further probe to seek answers to above questions with my fellow researcher friends (special thanks to my friend Mr.Anand Nadgir for his insights) unfolded following possibilities:

1.       Localized Geomagnetic conditions: The Earth’s crust has variations in magnetic minerals, and at these three locations, the composition or geological structure can amplify geomagnetic effects. This creates conditions where the Earth’s magnetic field extends slightly higher or lower than usual, essentially creating points where the magnetic field lines dip or concentrate, allowing for a direct connection to the Van Allen Belt’s energy. This localized resonance can cause a natural “focusing” of the Van Allen Belt energy/ charged particles, which enhances magnetic and energetic effects at ground level, making it unique compared to other places on Earth.

2.       Geomagnetic fields in certain areas can create noticeable effects, such as a feeling of peace, ease, or expanded awareness. It’s likely that at Kasar Devi, Machu Picchu, and Stonehenge, such magnetic anomalies or “geomagnetic windows” allow these belts’ energy to interact more closely with the surface. In these places, Earth’s magnetic field may align or resonate in a way that allows a stronger connection with the high-energy particles in the Van Allen Belts. Such sensations might have led mystics to recognize these areas as conducive for meditation

3.       Places with heightened geomagnetic activity can facilitate alpha and theta brainwave states, which align with the goals of meditation and introspection. Over time, these locations became revered as centers of calm and focus, and stories of their effects likely spread, attracting more seekers.

PROOF OF THE PUDDING

All that science proves today could possibly be ‘un-proved’ tomorrow when newer facts emerge. Despite all science, it is the experience of the one’s innerself that truly impacts our life decisions and choices.

The proof of pudding is in the eating.
