DESIGNING FOR ‘LIVING WATER’

Beyond Pipes and Pressure: Designing for 'Living Water', Not Just 'Wet Water' – This was the title of a recent talk at the inaugural session of the #IndianArchitecturalPlumbingLeague (IAPL) — a 5-Day Professional Development Program. A landmark initiative by the #CouncilofArchitecture (CoA) and the #IndianPlumbingAssociation — at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

This talk focussed on some unusual yet amazing facts about water, gathered during my research in Bioenergetic Architecture:

·         The human body is approximately 70% water. Earth's surface is 70% water. This is not just a poetic expression — it is biology, we are extension of earth (hence in our culture we revere earth as ‘mother’).

·         Dr. Gerard Pollack (University of Washington) has demonstrated that water in healthy human cells mirrors the structure of pristine mountain spring water — not the structure of water arriving at your tap.

·         Dr. Masaru Emoto's findings which have been independently replicated by the Aerospace Institute, Stuttgart, confirm that water's molecular structure responds to its electromagnetic environment — including the pipes and materials it travels through.

·         Nobel Laureate Luc Montagnier showed that water retains molecular memory of compounds it contacts — even after those compounds are removed.

Our plumbing infrastructure is quietly encoding its history into every glass of water an occupant drinks. While the chemical formula stays H₂O throughout but the molecular structure — the thing that determines whether water actually nourishes at the cellular level — is dismantled, step by step, between the mountain source and your building's tap.

Just as carbon can be both soft graphite or the hardest diamond based entirely on its molecular arrangement, the structure of water determines its biological effectiveness. When we design systems that deliver living, structured water, we are doing much more than providing hydration. We are actively elevating the cellular health, energy, and holistic well-being of the people inhabiting our spaces.

As part of Precept 2 of Bioenergetic Architecture—Vitalized Water—we recognize that water can be chemically safe yet biologically ‘dead’ because its molecular structure has been degraded through high-pressure piping and right-angle turns.

  • How can our drinking water be ‘vitalized’ and made alive again?

  • How can we choose ‘living water’ to flow through our plumbing systems?

These aspects were discussed in depth.

Nature designed it as a living system.

Occupants deserve hydration and vitality.

It ends at the wellbeing of the person inside the building.

Congratulations to the Council of Architecture and the Indian Plumbing Association for creating the Indian Architectural Plumbing League — a programme India's architectural community has needed for a long time.

A heartfelt thank you to Prof.Dr. #RashmiBalujaTandon, Deputy Director, CoA-TRC, for the personal invitation and for championing this dialogue between design intelligence and water science; to Shri #MineshShah, National Secretary IPA ( Director Aqua Utilities Design)and Shri #BOPrasanna Kumar ( Jt. MD Design Tree Services consultant)— thank you for bringing together architects and plumbing professionals on one platform.

This cross-disciplinary conversation is exactly what the built environment in India needs.
